The discord has now opened for this year's voiceteam Mystery Box (VTMB), the winter mini-round of an event that’s kind of like battleship but for podfic. This year I’m on team ‘Over The Top’, named for a team full of members who like to make lots of things! ^^

Earlier this year, I posted a list of personal goals for my participation in Battleship 2025, and it really helped guide me whenever I felt overwhelmed by the fast pace and variety of choices/challenges. So, I’m doing it again for VTMB! Here are my top ten wishes for this year’s event.

ONE: Record at least 5 femslash pods
Apparently, December 2025 has been the month of me getting into new femslash pairings, so I’d like to extend that to making podfic about them!

TWO: Repod one of my older pods
I got a comment from the author on a pod I made in Nov' 2020 recently, which was a lovely surprise. However, it reminded me that I’d always wanted to repod that one, as now that I have more experience, I believe could do it better. I’d like to give it a try and hope there’s a repod challenge this year 🤞 (I’ll still try to do it, even if there isn’t.)

THREE: Record at least three podfics that are over an hour in length
I’m aiming for 2026 to be my year of long pods, so it would be a good way to get started selecting longer things to record. With my pacing, a 1-hour podfic will be of a story around the 8,500 – 9,500 mark.

FOUR: Record gift pods for three specific people who aren’t playing VTMB
I’m combining my potential giftees into this one wish in the hopes I can manage all three. For now, I'll call them M, E, and W.

FIVE: Podfic my Night at the Museum fic ‘On Every Horizon’
I’ve wanted to podfic this one since I wrote it, as it’s probably the all-time fic I’m most proud of. I’ve always been intimidated to do so though (mostly because the character voices are so important for Jed and Octavius and I’m not so good at those) but if I can manage it, I’ll be so happy. It's also 15k so 😅

SIX: Record at least three Pokémon podfics
Just because it’s fun ^^

SEVEN: Record a gift for a member of my team I didn’t know before the event
Who knows who it will be and what they’ll be into! I hope I can deliver 💪

EIGHT: Make something physical for a challenge (crafts, baked goods, cosplay, etc.)
I’ve done this in prior rounds, making zines, wax melts, and cocktails. It’s soooo fun to steal use my podfic-related inspiration to make something tangible, so I hope to do it again this year.

NINE: Write something
I don’t care what it is! It could be a drabble, a tutorial, a rec post, but if it’s words, and let’s say… over 300 of them, then it counts. I’d prefer fic, but my writing mojo has been all over the place this year, so my goal can be a little all over the place too :P

TEN: Make new friends!

November is here. Already! 😲

October is a great month for fandom events, and one that's becoming a fast favourite of mine is ficortreat. It's such a unique format. I had a lot of fun knocking on people's doors and being lucky enough to get some wonderful treats for those who opened them! It was also great to make lots of icons as part of this event, too. I wasn't expecting many people to be interested in Pokemon icons from me, so the number of requsts I got was also a treat in a way.

You can see all 89 icons I made in the comments of this post. Pokemon represented are: Bewear, pyukumuku, drampa, onix, vaporeon, delphox, crobat, Hisuian zorua, meowth, azumarill, jigglypuff, alcremie, oddish, sharpedo, clefairy, and haunter ^^

I completed my WWDITS Podtober challenge! I did it – I posted one What We Do in the Shadows (TV) podfic per day for the whole of October. I’m realising as I write this post that 31 is the same number of podfics I made for battleship this year too. Neat! It was exhilarating, a little exhausting, and I still can’t believe I managed it. I’m proud of myself ^^

✨ The headline stats are: 88,260 words podficced, totalling 11 hours, 24 minutes of podfic! ✨

This past week, I've challenged myself to post a What We Do in the Shadows (TV) podfic every day, and I've succeeded! I hope to continue with this for the rest of the month, and have another week and a half's worth of pods ready to go as of writing as I'm really enjoying myself. It's also coincided with pod_o_ween, which has been great for motivation too. Check out what's in this year's collection so far here.

It's been nice getting to interact with fics in my shiny new fandom this way. It's boosted my motivation to read more fic in general, and I've found some real gems. I've been pushing myself with cover art too. Also, a friend made me some Nandor collages (scanned, physical ones!) that I'll be using on covers next week that I absolutely adore and can't wait to share.

As part of this project, I also followed jocundasykes' guide on using Python to scrape AO3 author profiles. It was complicated and most of the time I didn't know what I was doing, but I ended up with 9 new WWDITS writers for the FPS List and 2 edge cases I plan to reach out to from the 1088 authors I scraped. It's such a satisfying feeling to find new writers open to podfic of their works ^^

Semi-relatedly, I recently started a challenge with wilfriede0815 to crosspost at least one podfic to tumblr per week, something I'd never been brave enough to do before. (I'm palmofviolet on there if you're interested.) Having this challenge coincide with mine has meant I've been crossposting all these WWDITS podfics there too, which has been nerve-wracking but nice :)

I plan to post a stats roundup here at the end of the month for how many WWDITS pods I managed and how many words/hours were podded. My new Python "skills" (word used so very, very loosely lol) meant I also scraped my Internet Archive account this week and found out I've podded 106 hours of podfic since I started in 2020. I'm not sure how I feel about that total (I thought it would be bigger) but I am pleased about my recent personal growth with podding and how that will affect my output going forward. I feel more confident to take on longer stories these days, editing doesn't take me as long or feel like a slog (I enjoy it almost as much as recording), and I've even started trying more distinct character voices. Who knows if they're any good, haha, but it's fun to experiment.

This post has been rambly!

Today, while scrolling my Reading Page, I was greeted by purple boxes containing a message from imgur: "This content not viewable in your region." It's because of stupid new laws in the UK that have also stopped me from looking at fanart on AO3 and many other websites (🙄), and yeah I'm annoyed, but I thought I'd try to channel my annoyance into something helpful!

If you include images in your DW posts, such as icon batches or community banners, are you aware of DW's inbuilt image hosting? I feel like a lot of people are, so ignore this post if that's you, but if you're not... I'd already written the below guide for someone who reached out to me a few years ago asking for help, so I've tweaked it a little and hope it's helpful to anyone who might stumble across it.

Last year, I offered Pokemon-inspired wax melts as part of the fandomtrumpshate Craft Bizarre. Here's my post about it. Fashionably late as usual! 🐕 Canine Crunch - Rockruff - Citrus 🐕



If the scents don't seem to match, that's because that's what my winner was into (and also... what would Rockruff smell like? Probably not that great, haha.) I was really proud of how the marbling came out on this one! The glitter mix I used was called Sandstorm, which I thought was cool (as it's a Pokemon move).

Mine and javert's beloved little Poké Fest is back for another round! The DW is pokepodproject and signups are open for another eight days (though they'll close early if 100 writers sign up, and we're about halfway there right now so run lol!) PokéPod Project aims to create a fic and podfic about every Pokémon. This is our second round and will focus on the Johto region (Generation Two.) 

I had so much fun modding this last year, and I'm so excited to fall in love with new mons thanks to there being stories out there for me to sink my teeth (and ears!) into. I hope my Pokemon-inclined friends here on DW will give it a go if it sounds like something you'd enjoy (or return and have fun with us again 😊)
