rec_cember this month by posting a rec post every Saturday, but oops, that didn't go to plan. To catch up, I'll be posting a double helping of recs today. The first helping is fic gifts that have been made for me, originally planned to post on my birthday (which felt timely), and the second is fanart I could look at forever!

Remember Frank Hollander, the glitched out character invented by the holodeck based on Data that had all his abilities and, as a bonus, was evil andOldAncient West themed? Well, Deanna thought that was hot, so her and Data have sex about it. This fic is smoking hot and I still can't believe it exists, all these years later.

Written for me as part ofmultifandomdrabble (RIP) 2021
This was the first time I'd ever asked for a crossover as part of an exchange, as they're not normally my thing, but after watching a Python sketch where none of the professional Hide and Seek players ever aged or seemed to need any breaks over decades of hiding/seeking, I felt it could fit right into the 17776 universe. Isis only went and made it work amazingly, and in my favourite fic format too. The sketch is on YT here (7 mins.)

My favourite kind of Pokemon fic is one that turns a pokedex entry into a story, and this one is just perfect. "At times, Magnemite runs out of electricity and ends up on the ground. If you give batteries to a grounded Magnemite, it'll start moving again." This, but cuter, and dreamier, and gloriously peaceful. I always feel overtaken by a sense of calm whenever I re-read this one.
For a Thousand Summers (I Will Wait For You) by pauraque
Star Trek: The Next Generation, Guinan/Jean-Luc Picard, Teen, 283 words
Written for me as part offandomtrees 2022
If, like me, you can't stop thinking about how Guinan fell in love with Picard hundreds of years before she was supposed to know him (Time's Arrow, S05E26-S06E01) then you will love this fic. Guinan's longing is captured so well here, and it's wonderfully bittersweet that she knows a great love is coming, and that she will be known, but it's far into a future only she must wait for.

Black Mirror: USS Callister, Robert Daly/James Walton, Explicit, 3k

ictus's smut is impeccable. The dub-con elements of this are crammed with emotion, throwing you deep into Walton's gut reactions to all he's forced to do for his captain on the USS Callister, his disgust and humiliation, his paper-thin defences crumbling, his anger and coping mechanisms. It's wonderfully horrifying, just like the episode.

An adorable comic about a Sandy Shocks joining a trainer's team and their Chansey being scared of them. It's so cute and I LOVE Chansey's expressions when she first sees her freaky new team mate, when she hides, and when she finally faces her fears and realises they're not as scary as they look. The last image when they're friends is so joyful and sweet. I love this so much.

This is a such a sprawling scene with so much to look at, and the more you look, the more the story comes together. Pikachu was picking berries with their trainer (or maybe stealing berries from a harvester!) and to his horror, has been scooped up by Drifblim! I love the movement, the summery vibes, and the tiny Togepi watching Pikachu get swept away. Pikachu's expression is hilarious. The lineless style is gorgeous, too.

The art style of these three pieces is so unique. I love how busy they are with so much to see, the expressive poses, tight cropping, and bright lighting. They really are a feast for the eyes, and I feel so lucky to see my favourite Pokemon interacting and having FUN. I think that's the best word to describe these, actually. They're fun, uplifting, and very special to me.

Another adorable comic about a Chansey! This time, it's about Chanseys of different sizes and is incredibly charming. (The banana for scale cracks me up every time.) You also have to see Chansey dunking a basketball today, just trust me :P

Am I luckiest person on earth to see such wonderful art of my rare pairs? Yes, I think I am XD Spoiled honestly! This selection of pieces have everything I LOVE about this pair. Possessiveness, both ways. Fluff, with Han falling asleep on Chewie (with that slutty waist on show, hah). Size difference - that handprint my goodness. *fans self* This has everything. I love the shading in the cuddle pic with that papery texture. It really gives a sense of Chewie's soft fur. The use of colour in the smutty one is so... am I allowed to say impactful? :P These are spectacular.

This art floors me every time I look at it - blows my mind to bits. Double Deanna is the best amount of Deanna, and the way they're both lovingly drawn here is honestly a treat for the eyes. There are so many details, and I find myself lost in admiring them often. My favourites are the fabric folds in Deanna's uniform sleeves and those carefully placed ringlets flowing over the Goddess's shoulders. It's a breathtaking piece.

Something went BOOM and Dan is diving on Gav to save him! I love the action in this, the little moments of a split second focused on and the progression from instinct to intimacy.

I cannot believe I'm lucky enough to see this fanart. It's so effortlessly "normal" in what they're doing, just hanging out eating pizza, but UGH, there's something so intimate about it that makes me feel like I'm not allowed to see, like I'm intruding on their private moment, and I LOVE that. The pizza box on Larry's belly, the way Freddy is looking at him while he eats, Larry's relaxed expression, Freddy's lack of trousers, the sunlight catching on the cigarette smoke, the angle like we're sharing the couch with them, that Larry is in Freddy's apartment(!). Isn't this just the most gorgeous thing you've ever seen???

Not joking, I had this open in a tab on my tablet (RIP) for over a year. If I was feeling low, I'd switch to that tab just to stare at it. It's. Beautiful. The hands! The eye contact! Loki's expression! It's so romantic. The artist describes it as "a romance novel cover" and I love that, though it feels MORE to me. I revisit it frequently and am so glad it exists.

I was obsessed with this part of the book for ... gosh, years. There's something about Lascelles being trapped, forced to move and speak and behave in ways he has no control over, all while still having his faculties that was an amazing and horrifying punishment for him, my favourite character. This beautiful watercolour captures that empty horror so well, with the Lady in the Tower watching over him, that ghostly skeletal shape behind him of a prior Champion, and the briars growing from his heart into his eye socket - YES! Destroy him! I bought a print of this (and was the artist's first sale, yay) and it looks even better in person.I can't believe that was almost ten years ago what the heck. Anyway, please go look at this!

If you don't know anything about the SCP Foundation, don't worry. This is the entry for SCP-7179. It stands alone and will make sense without any other prior knowledge. This SCP anomaly is an afterlife dimension (and heads-up, it's a bit grisly) that kind of combines the films Cast Away and Groundhog Day, only there's no escape from this island and its time shenanigans. In Hekateras's skillyfully crafted IF, you get to experience life on the island and... it's harrowing. I've never been so captivated by a story, nor felt such dread when presented with the options I can choose from to continue it. It's a whole experience I'd love more people to have. Give it a try!

To this day, I'm still extremely touched that c_art and kitsunerei88 teamed up to create this beautiful children's-story-style picture book for an extremely rare pairing of mine. You don't really need to know Independence Day to enjoy the adorable art here. It's all about a parched Oddish being rescued from the desert and watered back to health, and it's honestly so precious. It cheers me up every time I revisit.

I love the surprises in this fic, the communication, and the Pokemon lore weaved throughout. It's clever, funny, and beautifully witten.

(And the way the writer designed their personal website is very cool; I'm going to have to spend more time poking around it later.)
