A Very Pokemon Few Days

This is a rambly post about what I've been up to recently, mostly Pokemon-themed.

Beta Testing the Pokécharms Trainer Card Maker Reboot
For the past few days I've been beta testing PokeCharms' rerelease of their Trainer Card Maker. It went live for the public about an hour ago, though it's very buggy still, so be warned. Here's the link to make your own, though I'd recommend checking back in 24 hours if you want to make one (I've reported what's really not working, so hopefully it'll be fixed by then!)

I thought I'd share some of the new style cards I made while testing! I still prefer the legacy pixel style (which is still around!), but I'm happy with how these look. It was fun to think up different teams based on my Pokemon Go monsters ^^







Getting the Pokemon Go Levelling Update
The levelling update finally happened, and I jumped up to level 50! (Legacy 38.) I was excited to get a bunch of backdated swag in the form of incubators.



Those stats are painfully wrong, by the way. These are my real numbers:

Pokemon Caught: 10,668
Pokestops Visited: 3,404
Total KM Explored: 1,221

I'm not sure why they're so wrong, but it's Pokemon Go so... I'm not surprised really!

I hatched my first Daily Adventure Egg while walking the dog today and it was cool to see a new egg colour. The funniest part was after it hatches when it shows your avatar smiling. I'd always been weirded out by how static they are, especially when you win against a grunt and do that little fist pump jump for joy with a completely blank face, but I didn't want THIS!

Playing Legends ZA! (Mild Spoilers)
I downloaded the game this morning hoping to play over breakfast, but it took two hours to download, ahhhhh. Regardless, I still managed five hours today between work meetings. Here's my player character chilling on some benches. She's stylish :D





I played Pokemon XY for the first time at the end of last year, so Lumiose City was relevatively fresh in my mind. It's so fun to see the city with updated graphics, to see Mable(!), the photos of XY characters on the walls in certain places 👀

I'm so interested in what Emma is investigating for Urbaine omg. I make a point to go and speak to AZ every time I leave the hotel because I'm respectful XD

Adopting Kittens!
Tomorrow I'm adopting these adorable, currently nameless kittens 🥹

Name suggestions welcome! They're both boys.

I'm also picking up two more from the same litter for my friend early next week and delivering them to her house. They are Leonard (after Trek's Bones) and Deanna (after the best Trek character ever.) I'll probably have lots of pics of them to share too by the end of the month.

Still working on WWDITS Podtober
My What We Do in the Shadows Podtober challenge continues to go well, though I'm falling behind with how many days in advance I have pods ready for. (Only two left!) It's getting down to the wire, but I'm trying to stay positive that I can either manage 31 pods for October or not feel sad about not making it. I must remember: any amount of pods is still a good amount.

Oooh, this is smart! Shinx is actually such a cool name, and wouldn't immediately scream Pokemon if I was calling for him when the neighbours could overhear XD Luxio too... rolls off the tongue. Ahh! Thank you for the suggestions. I will be thinking so hard about this today hehe

And yay, all the Pokemon things! Was your inventory also overfilled by the level-up rewards? It made me laugh, ngl.

I'm about that far into Z-A, too, and yes I'm so curious about Emma's case for Taunie! (In my case, heheh) I'm having a lot of fun with the game so far. The battle system is taking some getting used to, but I'm enjoying the learning curve! Your trainer's outfit is adorable, may you and Chikorita enjoy your adventures! ^_^

"Was your inventory also overfilled by the level-up rewards?" Absolutely rammed haha. I was trying to complete the monthly research thingy for "Spin 25 Pokestops" after and I realised I had to delete so much stuff to be able to do that, which was tough, but I kept all the best things :P

How goes ZA for you? I completed it two days ago!

Yeah, that was crazy, oh my goodness! Trying to figure out what I wanted to let go definitely took a minute. It was amusing though, in how ridiculously overfilled my items were.

Congrats! I beat the main story about a week after the release, and I enjoyed the game - honestly, way more than I expected to! While I loved some aspects of Legends Arceus, actually playing the game wasn't so muh something I liked. Z-A, though? I had a blast! I'm slowly poking at the post-game content, but haven't done a lot of gaming lately. How'd you like it?

Nice 💪 I'm in the same boat with liking more than I expected. I remember thinking at first, this is it? Just the city? But then they opened up the rooftops and the sewers and freaking Lysandre labs(!!!) and it felt much more explorable and fun. I'm so glad you had a blast in Lumiose City ^^

The post-game is boring me a bit, if I'm honest. Please don't make me have to earn any more challenger tickets XD I do enjoy the little side missions though, and it would be fun to fill out my Pokedex more. I feel like it's easy to miss the actual catching Pokemon part of the game once you find a team you're happy with.

I loved traveling the rooftops, especially once Rotom Glide was unlocked. It was a blast! And omg revisiting Lysandre Labs genuinely created some truly emotional moments for me. When I saw the remains of the room with all the beds, it brought my memory right back to sleeping there to heal up in Y... That was just a really cool feeling! Plus more notable familiar spots, like the cell and the blue and orange buttons... Aaah! Very cool!

Yeah, I've been doing post-game things last night and this morning, and it gets repetitive! But I did complete my Pokedex, that was fun to do! Dratini was a bother to get, but still, satisfying stuff - my next goal is to finish Mable's research... I guess that's repetitive too, yet it hasn't been boring to me!

My main team was Feraligatr, Diggersby, Delphox, Victreebel, Clefable, and Scrafty! With Clefable and Victreebel both being Alpha Pokemon. I got quite attached to my team! And to a Roserade I used for a long stretch, but I really wanted to use more Megas, and Mega Victreebel is such a fun design! How about your team, who all did you end up using?

Rooftops might be my favourite place to run around now 🤭 Oh my goodness, I was thinking the same thing about the room with the beds in! I tried to go up to one to see if it would let me heal and then felt all sad because of course not, just look at the state they're in. I love that they left the cell in there too. It felt amazingly nostalgic but also so cool to see it in a newer graphic style.

You completed the Pokedex!!? That's amazing, well done :D :D I don't think I've ever managed that in any Pokemon game. Why was Dratini hard? How far are you through Mable's research now? I hope you get that shiny charm! (Ooh, have you found any shinies so far?)

A nice selection of types on your team! I also had Clefable ^^ (Well, mostly Clefairy. I didn't want to evolve her because I prefer Clefairy but then I saw her Mega form, laughed out loud at how silly she looks, then evolved her.) Agreed that Mega Victreebel is so fun. I love it when Pokemon goes silly with things. Like Mega Starmie (all fun and games until they're charging towards you though, holy crap!)

My team was Garbodor, Stunfisk, Clefairy/Clefable, Aegislash, Klefki, and Meganium (who was my only Mega for most of the game.) I did have a Starmie for a while, mostly to cover water moves and help me get rid of the sludge, but then the sewers happened and Klefki was there and there was no contest :P

Yes! It was when it really hit the hardest that this was the same Lumiose, 5 years after X and Y. I loved that feeling!

Thanks! I first completed a game's Pokedex (both regional dex and national) in Alpha Sapphire, and it was so satisfying to do that I've completed the regional dex (and national when applicable) in at least one of every set of titles since then. It's usually a much slower burn than it was here! But the Z-A Pokedex is relatively small, 230 species of Pokemon. The problem I had with Dratini was I looked up and found two places to find it guaranteed, but they were both spots where it was tricky to sneak up on it, and Dratini ran away the first two times I encountered it. The third time, it was an alpha, so that big guy wanted to fight me! And that's the one I was able to catch.

I left off at level 48 of Mable's research - my next reward is the Masterball, and after that, the Shiny Charm! The research tasks I have left are catching multiple Pokemon of certain types, and being in 1000 trainer battles... I think it's specifically trainer battles, at least! I feel like I'd be closer if it wasn't, but I can't remember for sure. I'm a bit over halfway there on that one! Closer on the catching ones.

I've caught three shinies! One was the side quest Mareep, the other two were random encounters - a Skiddo, and to my delight, a Trubbish! I think Trubbish is really one of the cutest Pokemon. And I like that it's shiny is just like, well now it's a black trash bag! Additionally, my spouse offered me a shiny Bunnelby they caught, 'cause of how much I love that line. I asked if they wanted one of my shinies in return, but they asked I surprise them with an Alpha-- to quote them on it, "I like the BEEG Pokemon!" --so I gave traded them an Alpha Goodra. Again, quoting my spouse: "So big, so gooey!" I also failed a shiny Pidgey... It flew away, oops!

Have you found any shines? I really like your team, it's got such unique and fun guys on it! I've been more and more fond of Stunfisk since I wrote your ficortreat drabble, haha. Using (Mega) Starmie in this game seems fun-- I do love how it's so goofy but it also has that design for so many reasons, and also the run animation! So funny until it's barrelling towards you, yeah! --but I can't fault you one bit for going with Klefki in the end. I mean, come on, what a fun and cute little guy!

I would LOVE to have a shiny Trubbish. Do you name your pokemon? I'd be curious what you named that one if so ^^ (I normally only name my main team and get my friend who is good with names to do it, haha.)

I found a shiny Falinks (was delighted), Fletchling, and Pidgey (sorry yours got away from you!)

Aww heheh, thank you! My spouse has been on and off shiny hunting Dratini in Z-A and I respect their determination... I don't know if I'd shiny hunt something that flees!

I did get the shiny charm!! And I've caught a handful more shinies since that: a Bellsprout, a Budew (that I was so relieved didn't run away), a Fletchling, a Whirlipede, a Chikorita, and another Skiddo.

My shiny Trubbish is nicknamed Gunge! It's a reference to Fraggle Rock. I always nickname Pokemon that I keep on my team for a while, be it in my playthrough or post-game, and I nickname my shiny Pokemon! Though I have yet to nickname most of my Z-A shinies.

Oooh, shiny Falinks is SUCH a good find - a great shiny and a new mega! Congrats on your shiny birbs, too! :D

Yes! I didn't start the DLC yet but I'm hoping to do so tonight! I've avoided anything that wasn't in the trailers - and forgot a lot if non-megas revealed in those, anyway, lol - so I'm very excited to see what's there!

Oof, shiny hunting a fleeing Pokemon is extremely brave! Your partner must really have patience :D Best of luck to them! Annd wow what an amazing collection of shiny plants you have now though :D And GUNGE! That's so cute.

I'm also hoping to get into the DLC soon (the holiday season is keeping me busy enough that finding time to game is hard!) but I'm excited to see what's there too :D It'll be my first Pokemon DLC, eep!

Haha, yeah! They've put a lot of time into it already so far, I definitely think the patience is admirable! And oh man, I didn't even realize how many of my shinies have been plants until you pointed it out! I've even got another shiny Skiddo and shiny Bellsprout while playing the DLC... And two Flabebe, which aren't really plants but like... They do look like they could be!

Aw, thank you, I'm glad you like the nickname! I gotta give the rest of my shinies names... So far I just have named one of the Bellsprout "Spellbrout" because I accidentally said it that way after catching it, heheh.
