Slightly belatedly, the feedback post!

This year, I moved internationally during the exchange (pro tip: don't do this), with the actual moving date being the day sign-ups ended so I handled noms and sign-ups while packing (pro tip: super don't do this), and essentially felt like I was juggling about three balls too many at any given time. Hopefully this feeling of complete chaos did not reach you, but if it did, don't worry, I will not be moving, internationally or otherwise, next year!

With the above disclaimed, if you have any feedback, I'd be happy to hear it! (Even if it's "you sure seemed more disorganized than usual this year" or whatnot.) Requests on where to advertise? Wishes for a clearer FAQ/instructions?

Six Days Until Deadline

Your works are due at 2359 UTC on April 27, or just under six days from now. Countdown to assignment deadline.

Reminder: works that are still in Draft form do not count as a fulfilled assignment. If you have not submitted a full length completed assignment that is a) minimum length/size, b) complete (no 1/? or 4/? chapter counts), and c) is NOT in Draft form by the deadline you will be defaulted and you will not be guaranteed a gift. Stories that are bullet point lists or outlines will not be considered complete works. Stories that have [insert planet name here] or other placeholder text will not be considered complete works. Stories or art that have a listed DNW, or do not contain at least one of your recipient's requested tags, will not be considered complete works so do check your assignment email carefully!

We have two three nominations queries at this time. If you were one of the nominators of these tags, we would appreciate you helping us with clarifications:
  • Little Shop of Horrors - Menken/Ashman: The tag "Chantel (Little Shop of Horrors)" was nominated, but we are having trouble confirming that this character exists. Could the nominator share information on where they appear in the canon?
  • Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! | Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!: The tag "Sheriff Dekastop (Eizouken)" was nominated, but we are having trouble confirming that this character exists. Could the nominator share information on where they appear in the canon?
  • Heartbeat (UK TV): The tag "Cup of Tea (Object and Concept Anthropomorphism)" was nominated, but we wanted to double-check if this is indeed a nomination for a cup of tea that appears in Heartbeat—in which case it should be disambiguated with the proper fandom—or if it was an error.

Seasons of Drabbles - Spring Round: Signups and Nominations Open!

Signups are now open (a tiny bit early)! They will remain open until Monday, April 28 @ 11:59pm Eastern Daylight time (Countdown). You can browse the requests in the app!

The tagset will remain open for nominations through the end of signups. Please disambiguate your nominations to make the approvals process faster. IMPORTANT NOTE! If AO3 won't let you signup for a character that you know is definitely in the tagset, please comment here or email us with the exact fandom and character(s) you were trying to request/offer. A mod will then batch load it for you on the backend, and you will be able to request it.

  • You must request 3-10 fandoms with 1-20 characters and 1-7 drabble types each. Fandoms in your requests must be unique, but may be related (e.g., three Star Wars requests would be fine, as long as it was three separate Star Wars fandoms).

  • If you wish, you may request Any for drabble type. This means you are open to receiving any of the 7 drabble types in the tagset.

  • If you wish, you may request Any character. This means any character in the canon (NOT just the tagset). Please do not request Any unless you really are open to receiving any character from that canon.

  • If you have character DNWs, requesting Any might not be the best idea, as this could end up with a bad match with someone who had only offered that character. We will be checking for this before we send assignments, but it's possible we could miss something, which would lead to us having to re-assign your writer and send you to pinch hit. (Note that the character DNW would still be upheld in this situation.) If you are requesting Any and do not wish to receive fic about objects, etc., you should DNW that as well.

  • Blank signups are allowed, but prompts, likes, and a list of DNWs are strongly encouraged.
 
Offers:

Do Not Wants:

  • Only reasonable DNWs in your AO3 signup will be enforced.

  • A reasonable DNW is a DNW that is clear and does not attempt to box your writer into writing just one thing.


Other:

  • Some tags may not appear in the drop-down menu, but can still be used by copy-pasting from the tagset itself. This is a known AO3 bug.
 
  • If you encounter any issues while signing up, please let us know ASAP, as AO3 bugs can sometimes hit exchanges.

  • If you need to let us know something about your signup (such as not wanting to be assigned to a specific other participant), please contact us via email (seasonsofdrabbles AT gmail) or the mod contact post.

I've accidentally collected more than a couple of links for guestbooks options for personal sites, so I thought I'd better share them. I'm focusing on free AND ad-free options.

Atabook, from the folks who run Nekoweb. This is the one I use, and while it doesn't come with an embed option you can stick it on your site with an iframe.

guestbooks from meadow.cafe is a similar service, but it comes with an option to directly embed the guestbook on your website either with iframes or Javascript.

Kalechips' guestbook runs on PHP and stores entries in a CSV file.

Groundedwren's Guestbook runs with Javascript, Discord and Google Sheets.

You can set up Webmentions to go to a guestbook page, as seen here.

For people with more time and/or a specific aesthetic, Eva made this amazing notecard guestbook page. Here's another similar type, though I'm not sure how it was made.

I've also seen people create a Guestbook post on their Dreamwidth journal, and invite comments there. :D

This is kind of a drive-by rec post, but I have recently discovered and made good use of Single File PHP Gallery (link: https://sye.dk/sfpg/), which is, true to its name, a gallery utility that consists of a single PHP file. Definitely worth checking out if you want or need a very bare-bones gallery on your website!

In case you know of any similar low-requirements and low-maintenance gallery scripts to add to a website, feel free to add them to the comments!

This will possibly be longer, depending on whether all remaining pinch hits are claimed - I'll post an update closer to the time. All being well, gifts will now be revealed at 20:00 UTC on Friday 25 April.

The collection will not open until all participants who fulfilled their assignment on time have received an assigned gift.
