I’m behind with [community profile] snowflake_challenge but hoping to catch up in this post! I’ve skipped those challenges I didn’t feel like completing, and I’ll probably post more of these combined challenge posts for the remainder of the month :-)

Thank you for checking this post out!

Challenge #1: Introduce yourself
Hi, I'm Pea. I'm a podficcer! I have an intro post at the top of my journal. Thanks to this challenge, I gave it a bit of a polish. Here’s a link to it if you’re interested.

Challenge #4: Create some goals
My favourite part of the fannish year is setting goals, then seeing how I did. I usually make goals for myself anyway, so I enjoyed writing them for my journal for this challenge. It’s made them feel more official!

(1) Record longer podfics
There’s nothing wrong with short pods (I love shortfic, so making short pods comes naturally to me), but there’s something about the balance of my ‘podfic length’ tags that I’d like to mix up a bit in 2021. At present, I have 20 podfics over 10 mins. By the end of the year, I’d like to have doubled that amount.

(2) Record podfics for British Comedy
I am a huge comedy fan and want to spread the love by recording pods for Britcom fandoms that are either small or don’t have much (or any) existing podfic. I’m going to make a series on my AO3, Brit Com Pod, which already has a couple of works to go in it. Now I just need to fill it with more.

(3) Take part in events and exchanges that welcome podfic
I posted a masterlist of all the fannish exchanges I took part in last year recently, here. I’d like to take part in some of those again as I enjoyed the experience. I’d also like to find some new-to-me events that welcome podfic. I’m off to a good start with that as I’m currently signed up to [community profile] purimgifts, but I’m keeping my eyes peeled for more.

(4) Reach 100 works on my podfic AO3
At nine months since I started making podfic, I’m already at 61. I think this is doable!

Challenge #6: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create

This coincides brilliantly with the rec post I made a few days ago:
10 podfics I enjoyed in 2020!
:-)

Challenge #8: Make a wishlist

Three wishes <3

(1) Feedback! Like most fic writers, feedback gives me warm, happy feelings. If I’ve written anything at my fanfic AO3 that sounds RTYI, I’d love if you dropped me a comment or kudos. Seriously, those ‘new comment’ and ‘kudos summary’ emails make my day :-)

(2) Request podfic of your works in your Snowflake Challenge wishlist! If you do, consider adding a blanket permission statement to your AO3 profile. This is a few sentences allowing other fans to create works (such as podfic or translations) inspired by yours. You can read more about permission statements here. Afterwards, you might want to check out www.fpslist.org and add yourself to their database so podficcers like myself can find you easily! Their About page is here. If you’d like me to add you, let me know.

(3) Fic of my OTP, Brackish Okun/Milton Isaacs from the Independence Day movies. Here's their AO3 tag. If you’re interested in these two at all, please ask me about them <3 It is one of my goals in life to spread the word of this canon gay ship that didn’t get the attention (or treatment from the writers) that it deserves!

Ooh I didn't know about the fpslist and it looks like I was already on it! I've attempted to update my entry but I have no idea if I did it right, haha. Glad to know about this, at any rate - thank you!

I have a transformative works statement, but only because it was recommended during Snowflake one year (well, every year, but that was probably my first)! *g*

61 podfic sounds like a LOT! Good luck reaching your goals.

In the past I didn't listen to podfic, but I've started walking and am looking for something to listen to, so I think I'm going to dip my toes in.

What brilliant goals for this year and a great wish list too. Wonderful that you want to share the love for British comedy small fandoms, I love that idea.

I finally got around to adding my transformative works statement to my A03 profile yesterday. I'd never done into because I didn't think anyone would be interested but so many people have mentioned it that I thought I should!

I have to admit, I haven't really ever got into podfics but your recs look interesting so I shall endeavour to dip my feet in the water, lol.

I've bookmarked all your links and will definitely peruse them all when I get a minute. I'm happy to read fic even if I'm not familiar with the show.

Thank you for sharing :)

I'm here from Snowflake.

I invite you to check out a couple of communities:

[community profile] allbingo is a high-inspiration, low-pressure community. It's open to all fandoms and original works, all sizes and media. It hosts a fest each month on different themes. Currently up is Fresh Starts.

Most fills are fiction, but everything is welcome, and podfic would be an awesome addition. You could fill with your own choices, or choose favorites from other people's fills and record those. If you want people to know what you're doing, just post an introduction as a podficcer and see who expresses interest.

[community profile] crowdfunding is a community for creators, patrons, and fans of cyberfunded creativity. It hosts a mid-month Creative Jam on different themes. Next up will be "Darkness and Light, on Jan. 16-17. Everything is welcome.

The Rose and Bay Awards are currently running to recognize excellence in crowdfunding. If you like supporting original work via crowdfunding as well as fanfic, please drop by and make some nominations. Think Kickstarter, Patreon, etc. in addition to folks who run events on their blog with a PayPal button.

I host a Poetry Fishbowl in my blog on the first Tuesday of each month. People give me prompts, and I write poems based on whatever I get. Next up will be Feb. 2 on "Cultural Differences." Drop by and give me some ideas.

>> (4) Reach 100 works on my podfic AO3
At nine months since I started making podfic, I’m already at 61. I think this is doable! <<

Go you!

It's easy to do lots of things if they're small. Last year I did haiku for the 500 common kigo. This year, my dad -- who loved the kigo collection -- asked for astronomy haiku and that became this year's collection.

Reaching that goal with longer podfics would be more challenging, but doable if you don't try to make them all long. *ponder* Also consider what you mean by "long." Recorded all in one sitting? Or "chapter" podfics of longer works? I had to think about what "finished" meant with some of my fanfic in order to break a logjam.

>> (2) Request podfic of your works in your Snowflake Challenge wishlist! <<

Already done. I'm actually the first commenter this time! Never managed that before, and I am all asquee about it. :D

I write everything under the suns. My audience includes a significant number of vision-impaired, mobility impaired, etc. fans and also folks who just like audio for long drives. They're a lively bunch, so check out my blog and see if you like the action there.

If you want to stick with fanfic, my AO3 works are here and this is the Crossover Content page for Schrodinger's Heroes. There's also Frankenstein's Family.

My most popular fanseries is Love Is For Children (The Avengers). It had podfic of just the first entry once (it's huge) but that has since disappeared and my fans are sad. A replacement would be received with much rejoicing.

Beyond that, I'd love to get podcasts of any of my writing. The Serial Poetry page has a ton of stuff to choose from. Conveniently due to crowdfunding, the biggest series are the most popular, with Polychrome Heroics (superhero fantasy) leading the pack by a large margin.

If you'd like help deciding where to start -- say, if you'd enjoy podding a topic that rarely appears -- ask me and I'll help sort through my massive archives of stuff to find something that appeals.

>>If you do, consider adding a blanket permission statement to your AO3 profile. <<

It has a link to my transformative works statement.

>>Afterwards, you might want to check out www.fpslist.org and add yourself to their database so podficcers like myself can find you easily! Their About page is here.<<

Done.

There are a few, very few, venues and awards for short works. Check out the Dwarf Stars Award for SF poetry of 10 lines or less. A handful of haiku magazines exist too, but it's probably easier to find haiku online. For some reason, Americans don't like poetry much -- except online, where there is rather a lot of it.

If someone would like to add me to the podcast webpage as well, I also have a blanket statement on my pages and am happy to have folks record my fanfic (and create fanart or fancovers, etc. though as mentioned the culture behind those fanworks is a little different and easier to navigate).
