It's been four days since [community profile] voiceteam's amazing Mystery Box event ended. Now I've had some time to recover from the exhausting fun, I wanted to share what I created with my team as part of the event here on my journal. I loved working with Team Sun to score podfic points, create podfic and podfic-related works, and generally getting to chat to them every day for two weeks! It was an amazingly well organised and modded event and I can't wait to sign up for the next round :-)

In terms of points, Team Sun came second after losing the final tiebreaker challenge point to the amazing Red Out Loud team. It didn't feel like a loss, as I never expected to be in for a chance at grabbing all those points anyway, had so much fun creating our tiebreaker with my team, and had so many fannish experiences I wouldn't have had if it wasn't for this challenge.

Overall, Voice Team resulted in 111 hours 40 minutes and 46 seconds of new podfic for the world! How brilliant is that?

Team Sun <3

I loved my team! I hope we can work together again in future. Team Sun's members became the sunflowers, always reaching for the sun, aka those sweet Voice Team points. We had team mascots in the Sun City retired cheerleaders, and we were always exhibiting a sunny disposition <3

We created an AO3 collection containing most of the works we made as a team for this event. You can find it here.

Who were my lovely teammates, you ask? Well...

Chantress - Super reliable and super speedy. An awesome teammate!
LenaLawlipop - The teammate who was always willing to help with anything <3
Litrapod - So driven throughout the event, in the best way! Thank you for getting me so many points, Litra XD
Lunatique - Amazing graphic works. I'm still in awe!
Mousek - My Crowley in our tiebreaker. I may be biased, but I think we sound brilliant together in multivoices!
WoollyLambda - The most enthusiastic person ever :-D Mena's sense of humour is also *chefs kiss*
UnholyCrowley - An incredible editor. Rhi's speedy and impressive editing skills saved our bacon!

My contributions to challenges

WORKS I CREATED

'Search for a Title' (Fic & Podfic) [Independence Day (Movies), Brackish/Milton]
Perhaps my favourite of the works I created for Voice Team, which is why I'm listing it first. The challenge was 'Cover Art First', in which someone else made a cover that then inspires a podfic. MistbornHero posted a cover with placeholder text for anyone to use if they wanted (and I believe the title was supposed to be a jokey placeholder, too!) and it immediately made me think of Brackish writing poetry as he does in the film's prequel novel. I wrote the fic in one morning, then recorded it, and MistbornHero added the credits to the cover. I loved this process so much!

Podfic of 'Snap' by misbegotten [Star Trek: TNG, Q & Picard]
I had already planned to try out soundscaping with this podfic. When the 'Jinx' challenge was announced (use the same sound effect in your podfic as someone else) I shared the big list of sounds I had ready to go with my team. My finger clicks were used in our tiebreaker work to fulfill this challenge. The TNG bridge ambience was also used by WoollyLambda and the water effect by Litrapod. You can find links to these works in the notes of my pod!

Podfic of 'Who Never Sat Weeping' by james [Harry Potter, Oliver/Percy]
We were allowed to submit one work only for a bonus 30 points as part of the 'Wish Fulfillment' challenge. This involved creating a podfic for someone requesting it in the [community profile] holiday_wishes and [community profile] fandomtrees communities. Making works as gifts for these challenges was an idea I shared with my team in our Discord chat early on. I was not expecting the lovely mods to swoop in and make this an official challenge for the event, but I was so pleased when it happened. This resulted in lots more podfic created for both those fests, and I'm so glad to have had a tiny part in inspiring that.

Podfic of 'Exhibit Under Repair' by verecunda [Night at the Museum, Jedediah/Octavius]
This was made for WoollyLambda for the 'In Their Shoes' challenge in which we made a podfic for someone on our team involving something they like! WoollyLambda had marked Night at the Museum as a fandom they liked on our team spreadsheet, so I was delighted to get to record this for them.

WORKS I MADE COVERS FOR

Podfic of 'Nothing Rhymes with Aziraphale' by SharkbaitHooHaHa [Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley]
A podfic by my teammate, Mousek. The design was inspired by the shaped poem "Easter Wings" by George Herbert, which is arranged as two sets of wings. I dragged my flatmate into this one by asking her to contribute her beautiful handwriting, which I then scanned and arranged.

Podfic of 'Love is Stored in the Cat' by socchan [Miraculous Ladybug, Chat Noir/Ladybug]
Another wonderful podfic by Mousek. This design was inspired by Chat Noir's eyemask.

Podfic of 'Poetry is the Soul's Language' by LenaLawlipop [Guardians of Time, Arkarian/Isabel Becket]
An interesting one in that my teammate, Lunatique, had already made some gorgeous art as part of the event's 'Synesthesia' challenge (in which you listen to a podfic and draw art relating to the performance.) I used this art in my cover, hoping to give it enough room to speak for itself.

Podcast, Sauntering Sunwards - Our tiebreaker work! [Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley]
Our tiebreaker work was a podcast with three episodes, each of which had a cover made by a different artist. I created a cover for the first episode when we were still brainstorming the idea for the 'Cover Art First' challenge. It contained a meme to cross off another challenge ('Is This A Meme?') and as part of 'Cover Art First' involved the cover inspiring the podfic, we came up with the idea of Crowley waking Aziraphale in bed based on this image.

WORKS I EDITED

Podfic of 'Gelato in Venice' by Scmnz [Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley]
My first time editing someone else's podfic was such a fascinating experience. I really enjoyed listening to Litrapod's raw recording while I was editing - it boosted my confidence in my own recording abilities (because we all make mistakes yet rarely hear those of other podficcers in polished recordings!), introduced me to methods of visual editing I've never used before, and was really rewarding.

Podfic of 'the best macaron croquembouche' by alexseanchai [Miraculous Ladybug]
Another by Litrapod that I was honoured to edit. Unexpectedly some of the most enjoyable parts of Voice Team for me!

Podfic of 'Making Biscuits' by Nemainofthewater [Critical Role]
My editing contribution to this one wasn't as in depth as the two above. It was mostly adding filters to the work to help with background noise. After working on this, I used snippets from the podfic in my tutorial for editing in Premiere Pro (see below) and inspired UnholyCrowley to install the software which was then used to edit our tiebreaker work! :-D

Podfic of 'Humane Society' by smilebackwards [X-Men]
Completely different contribution to this one than the others, but it seemed to fit nicely into this category. I was the music consultant for Lunatique, providing her with a bunch of different songs about cats with timecodes for suggested cuts/fades. I'm so pleased to have been of some use in the creation of this amazing podfic.

PODFIC RESOURCES I CREATED

Filters and Settings for Podfic in Premiere Pro
I was always worried about sharing my podfic editing process as (1) from what I've seen of the podfic community, barely anyone uses this program to edit, and (2) I have no idea if the way I do it is the "right" way and didn't want to share any bad habits. Then Voice Team's 'Document It' challenge popped up, which encouraged podficcers to make tutorials or create resources for others to use. Hence, here I am sharing my process! It did end up being helpful, so I'm glad it exists.

Making Moodboards in Photoshop (for podfic covers and for fun!)
Another thing I never would've posted if not for this challenge, though I'm so glad I did now as it inspired my other teammates to try out moodboard-style covers and they all looked fantastic.I was delighted that I got to incorporate my signature cover style into this event while also making covers for others that were different. It was so fun!

PODFIC EVENTS I PLANNED/BRAINSTORMED

Podfic in a Pear Tree
An event I brainstormed with my team where podficcers create works inspired by the gifts given in the song, The 12 Days of Christmas.

Podfic Treasure Hunt
Another event Team Sun brainstormed. This time, it's a clue-based hunt through AO3 podfic with fannish prizes!

PODFIC MEMES I MADE!

The meme challenge was a delight. Over 500 memes were made over the whole event (and that's only ones that officially counted for points, there were probably twice that many in general!) and I always had a smile on my face because of them. Here are some of the ones I made. I hope they bring you a smile!

(This one is super specific to Hannibal podfic for me, haha)

MISC.

There were many other awesome challenges I completed, but the results of those are hard to share. Such things as comments on podfic, and creating artworks based on podfic performances that I'm a little too shy to share here. I loved all of the challenges though, no matter if they produced podfic or something podfic-adjacent. I can't wait to take part in another round of Voice Team!

One of my works was also recorded as part of the event! The wonderful Elle_dubs recorded my Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell fic 'On Reflection' [Childermass & Vinculus] set novel post-canon. You can listen here!

Oh wow, I aspire to this level of wrap up but realistically I don't think I'll manage, so I'm living vicariously through yours. So much fun!
