Stuff and Things (and pronouns)

I updated the colour palette of my journal today and somehow managed to lose bullet points entirely in the process. They don’t show up on my reading page or main blog anymore, and I have no idea how that’s possible when I just changed the colours. Oops!

I’m not sure how to say this, so I’ll get right to it: I’ve changed my preferred pronouns. I am going by they/them at the moment. Uh, thanks!

Mushroom update: Pink oysters are very hard to grow in the UK. A small handful of the first fruiting was salvageable, but they were well past their prime. Then I managed to use too much oil when cooking them and ruined them. I’ve shared a pic of that first lot pre-cooking below (with the weird, dry, mutated ones in the background that had to go in the bin.) A second flush is now trying to decide what its doing, with some of it pale/brittle/moulding while the rest seem happy yet tiny. I hope they will settle soon.

The blue oysters were completely absent for three weeks (and one of the two boxes still hasn’t done anything) but after building a makeshift martha tent—basically a clear plastic bag with a tray of perlite in the bottom that I regularly open to fan and mist—they suddenly started to show up a few days ago! Pic under the cut of their freaky forms. I’m hoping to put them in a miso soup, but don’t tell them that.



I’m challenging myself to watch 15 films in April, so one every other day. So far I’ve watched Her (2013) and Thor: Love & Thunder (2022), and tonight it’s Gravity (2013). I also watched Conclave recently and was pleased it lived up to the hype. I put all the films I wanted to give a go in a pot and have been pulling them out at random. It’s been fun so far!

I know, right? XD I thought they’d grow on anything, but these ones are super fussy. I’m still enjoying learning about them though, even if I don’t really get to eat many :)

Oooh, growing mushrooms... That's so cool! I'm glad the blue oysters started cooperating, may your miso soup be a delicious accompaniment to your movie nights - the 15 films in April idea is also really cool, and is the sort of thing I think I'd enjoy doing; you've got me thinking now!

I'm not sure if the blue oysters are growing properly - I looked at some pics online and haven't found any that look like mine do, wahhh, but I still have hope. Things might change! 🤞

Congrats on the pronoun rebrand, and oh man, I hear you about unexpected stylistic changes when you change one thing about your journal. I've still never quite figured out how to stop my new style from changing the first letter of each word in my subject lines to a capital.

And I love the idea of putting the films you want to see in a pot and having a random drawing. I feel like I've always got titles I mean to get to swimming around in my head, but when I have the time to sit down and watch something, I waste a lot of it on indecision. Good luck with hitting your goal!

I realised that the little person and earth icons in front of names and communities aren't showing up for me either now XD How did I mess up this bad!? Speaking of titles, my style changes my titles to all lowercase and I can't work out how it does that either. DW is confusing!

Ooh, you could throw the films into your own pot when they pop into your head and you'll never lose them. Saving time with indecision is so useful otherwise I'm such a scroller haha

I would recommend! It's really fun. I'm learning it's very hard to get conditions right though (things got worse since I posted this ahhh), so be prepared for it to be more involved than just opening the box and leaving them to it! Giving it a try when the weather is warmer is probably a good idea too :)
