Mushroom Growing
Mar. 14th, 2026 01:54 pmI'm so excited to share my mushroom growing kits that arrived yesterday!

I got these from Smart Mushrooms, a British company that was started by a 16-year-old, hell yeah! They had a three for two deal, so I ordered a Pink Oyster, Blue Oyster, and one "random" kit. Unfortunately I got a second Blue Oyster kit for my random one, but that's always the risk with random isn't it, so I don't mind. If I end up loving this process, I'll probably order the rest of their mushroom types too ^^
Here they are before I opened them:

They were so much bigger than I expected. I thought they were going to be about the size of a water bottle but they're huge XD I realised quickly after making the above space to keep them in that I probably shouldn't sleep next to three bags of mycellium for 2+ weeks, so they've been relocated to the kitchen. They can apparently give 2 - 3 flushes of mushrooms too, so they need a home they can stay in for at least 6 weeks, and next to my bed isn't that.
This was how they looked last night after I opened them and gave them their first mists of water. (I need to mist them twice a day, so I do it when I have breakfast and dinner. When I eat, they eat!)

As you can see, I decided to name them. Extremely inventively, they are called Bluey, Pinky, and Shroomy! I name my houseplants, so why not name my mushroooms too? I wonder who will fruit first.
I'll update about them here when something starts happening. It'll be about a week. Once I harvest them, I'm planning to make some mushroom pasta where I also make the pasta from scratch as I've never done that before. I'm sure I'll need to think of more mushroom recipes too as I'll be inundated, but that's okay, I love mushrooms and also making new-to-me dishes, so it'll be the perfect excuse. If you have any favourite mushroom dishes, please share :)
Thanks for looking at my soon-to-be mushrooms!
