Picspam: Magnemite Merch

peasinaAs I'm currently working on a Magnemite TCG master set, I often stumble across interesting official merch for this little guy. Some of it is hilarious, some of it is so cool, and some of it so rare and obscure it gets immediately added to my pipe dream wishlist. I thought I'd share some of the merch I've found recently that fits into these categories! I've included some facts and musings about the merch too, so it's not just pics.
Hopefully, this will all end up on my Neocities site one day, once I've collected more wierd and wonderful Magnemite merch!
Ichiban Kuji Prize Plates
Oh my goodness, so these are super rare and currently three of them are for sale online (hence my pics) but unfortunately in the USA so I can't get my hands on them. It's not the shipping costs, it's the import fees. The UK sucks.
Just LOOK at these! I'm in love with the blue one and the lighhtbulb one.
These are from 2017, made by Banpresto as part of their Ichiban Kuji "Pokemon Research" prize lottery line. This lottery is only available in Japan and takes place at book stores, hobby/game shops, and Pokémon Centers. This one ran in September 2017. The prizes ranged from Magnemite plushies, keychains, and this selection of plates. As such, these plates are super rare as they were never sold in stores. The rarest item from the lottery was a single Magnemite plush that had a different eye type. Someone out there is sitting on Magnemite gold.
I love the variety of the plate designs, especially the blue one, which could be a subtle fandom plate that doesn't immediately scream Pokemon unless you look closely. I'm not really a fan of Magnezone, but I do love the Magneton sitting on their head. I might have to make an icon out of the lightbulb one!

San-Ei All Star Collection Magnemite Plushie
This plushie can only be described as scrungly. This is the scrungliest, most worried looking Magnemite I've ever seen. That messed up eye shape gives furrowed brow energy. This is from the Pokémon All Star Collection from San-ei Boeki. Again, a Japan exclusive.
Seriously, that eye is so bad it almost looks like a production error. (Speaking of, I NEED the Pokemon Center Sitting Cuties plush of Magnemite that was originally produced without the magnet colours flipped. It was recalled and I've never seen it online, but I know it exists so ahhhh, I want!)
Aww, don't worry, buddy. Everything's gonna be okay!
Please note: A UK seller says that this plush is likely a good size for cuddling and I have to agree.
Pokemon Center Iono Earrings
These are the newest item on the list, based on the Magnemites Iono wears on her head. The stumpy magnets always make me go "aww". I met someone dressed as Iono at Comic Con in May. She'd made the Magnemites out of helium balloons but they'd gone all floppy so she wasn't wearing them. I still got a pic with her though. She was really nice.
I think these are so cute, but I don't wear silver jewellery so I'm resisting buying them (for now.) Also I'm still not sure if I should be collecting Iono cards for my Magnemite master set. Technically Magnemite cameos in them, but it's just as a headpiece. I do really like Iono though... so I'll see how I feel if I ever get to complete the main Magnemite cards. Some of the older reverse holos are eye-wateringly expensive. I might share my current card collection on here soon. It would be cool to track my progress in posts as I track down the rarer Magnemite cards.
'Cool x Metal' Magnemite Magnet Key Hanger
My holy grail of Magnemite collectables. The most faked item I've seen so far (on Ebay, Ali Express, Etsy, etc.) The Magnemite key hanger!
This is official merch from the Pokemon Center, as part of the Cool X Metal line, made in 2022. This was a collection of homeware with various Pokemon made in silver (figures, jewellery) or printed with the nuts and bolts, Magnemite, and Meltan pattern you can see in the back of the box above. I would actually LOVE anything from this line with that pattern. There's an A4 plastic file and a collapsable shopping bag, and they just look so nice. Again, a very subtle fannish item to have that doesn't immediately scream Pokemon. Observe:

This little dude has magnetized magnet ends (bottom part only) and is also a magnet on the back. It's an adorable, functional design and marked everywhere it's available as a "collector" item, probably because of the price. I haven't seen it for less than £100 unless it's an obvious knock off.
Knock offs of this design are easily made with the free 3D printer pattern available with a quick Google, and they're available super cheaply on places like Ali Express too. It really grinds my gears that multiple people are posting the 3D prints on eBay, claiming they're official but only charging £50 or £75 so people will grab them. You've gotta be careful out there.
When you see the keys for scale, it's easy to see how baby this Magnemite is!
